Complex Interdependence –
-
Nature of the theory – unlike other liberal perspectives complex interdependence is a descriptive theory. It is one of the best descriptions of interstate relations as well as IP in post Cold War situations/world order. CI concept makes modification in ideas by both structural realist as well as globalist.
-
Structural Realist – They do not accept any qualitative change in interstate relations for them world continues to remain anarchical.
-
Globalist/Liberal – On the other hand liberals like Fukuyama declared end of history, globalist point out that world has changed qualitatively, from the order based on Westphalian system, we have entered into global village representing huge interdependence.
-
CI aims to make liberalism realistic. Hence acc to them it is not simple interdependence it is Complex interdependence.
-
It means old issues have not resolved but at same time present condition compel countries to cooperate. Thus CI compels us to love those, whom we would otherwise love to hate. Thus CI suggest that old issues remain bunted challenges have emerged.
