THE CONCEPT OF TRADING STATE

Richard RoseCrance – Gave concept of trading states. Eg – At present Japan, Germany, till WW2 USA, till very recently China (peaceful rise).

Alternative to trading states is former USSR, Germany under Hitler, USA since 2001. Acc to Rosegrance trading state model is a better model for the countries. The countries which relied more on militaristic state i.e military power have suffered more, for eg – USSR disintegrated. The decline of USA hegemony started once it started relying too much on hard power.
